“Good my lord, will you see the players well bestowed? Do you hear, let them be well used, for they are the abstract and brief chronicles of the time.”

Hamlet, 2.ii.

Actors are the “abstract and brief chronicles of the time” - through the portrayal of stories that are out of time and place, actors and storytellers manage to convey deeper meaning than literal lessons immediately relevant to our circumstances. Those events on stage, be they in another time, another place, on another planet or in slapstick comedy, can teach us more of the human condition.

“Science adjusts its views based on what's observed. Faith is the denial of observation so that belief can be preserved.”

Tim Minchin, Storm

Though spirituality can be personal and add to a life, faith in the face of science must be willing to adjust its views or else no progress can be achieved.

“That which is asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence.”

Christopher Hitchens

We can certainly understand that a person’s worldview is hard to change. Many things are taught as truths and we are taught simply to accept them growing up. However, as we grow up, we learn to question some beliefs, and if someone approaches us with a conflicting belief, we cannot be expected to automatically accept it. We would either dismiss the idea or require some proof to convince us of another person’s truth. Therefore, we must respect everyone’s ability to do the same, and recognize that we must present evidence if we are to be believed as well.
